Here’s what we have all been waiting for folks, it’s the only cure for the summertime blues. MPL season VIII has begun ...and these 2 owners are both a part of our beloved MPLC and in the same division 2 years in a row . Last year Sully took 2 from Jimbo. Their second game came down to Jim throwing a pick in the redzone to lose him the game. You’ll be sure that Jimbo will be gunning for revenge and Sully is gonna have to try to back up his recent remarks of winning a second MPL bowl with an opening week victory.

The 49ers (Sully)

OFFENSE

Sully is gonna stick with his west coast offense...expect a heavy dose of Frank Gore behind blocking from Larry Allen. His counters plays are very hard to contain, but I believe the speed of the Broncos linebackers can do just that...contain frank gore(though nobody expects him to be stopped). The other key to component of the west coast offense is the 5-10 yard pass play so expect to see most of his passes caught by his 2 very good TE’s Eric Johnson and Vernon Davis. Also Frank Gore has got to be watched in the flats, I doubt Sully wants to bump heads with the likes of Champ, Lynch and the very talented secondary of the Denver Broncos.

DEFENSE

There are a lot of holes in the 49ers defense in which Sully will need to fill or hide. The key for him will be to bring pressure and keep Cutler from being able to get the ball deep to Javon Walker. Manny Lawson will be called on to bring pressure from the outside early and often, forcing cutler to throw short passes. Also, a lesser known name will be important and that is Mark Roman the free safety, he plays the same side as rookie CB Shawntae Spencer, and will be controlled manually by Sully to try and make up the difference on the left side of the defense. Ultimately, I think Jim and the broncos have to many weapons for this team to stop and Sully and his Niners will have to win this game on offense.

OFFENSE

Jim's offense is very balanced...his offensive line is one of the best in the league so he’s gonna be able to run up the gut or he’s gonna try to get outside with Tatum Bell using pitches and counters. He also likes to overload on side with 2 wideouts and the tight end and he'll throw underneath to the running back coming out of the back field. Jim does an excellent job of using all parts of the field so if Sully is going take the flats away from him, Jim will try to beat an inferior secondary with his big strong receivers. I don’t think the niners have an answer for Javon Walker and he will have 6 catches for 110 yards and 2TDs.

DEFENSE

Sully is gonna try to come out and stuff it down Jimbo’s throat with Gore. Jim will try to shadow him with Wilson or Lynch to come up and help in run support . I think the Broncos are going to play a lot of zone coverage in this one as their secondary is second to none and Champ is one of a kind. Jim is gonna have to cover the screens and keep his defenders in the flats as well as covering the middle of the field. Sully is very good at maneuvering Alex Smith around, and the broncos don’t have much speed on the d-line so expect those Broncos Lbs, especially Wilson and Gold to blitz the QB and force Sully into making decisions earlier than he wants too.

Frank Gore against Al Wilson

Frank Gore is the focal point of Sully’s offense and he is his only running threat. Gore is always his safety valve in the passing game. Al Wilson will be given the task of containing this beast but I think that Gore's combination of speed, power and great hands allows Gore to set the pace of this game. Gore will have 180 total yards between rushing and receiving and 2 T.Ds.--one in the air and one on the ground.


Outcome: This will be a back and forth struggle ultimately the winner will be the team who scores last. Sully has a lot of teams gunning for him this year, with his name in big letters as defending champ. With these 2 teams battling in undoubtedly the toughest division in the MPL, the first game of the year will be a gauge as to how their season goes. Sully is more consistent and will prove once again why he was the champ and win this one in the last minutes of the 4th.
